Vacation 2010

It's almost the end of my much-needed-vacation and while I'm sad it will be over soon, all good things must come to an end I suppose.

We went camping up in the Adirondacks again. We stayed on a lovely little island on middle lake. Rayna just turned 10 months old so she had never been in a boat before! She took to it pretty well, but doesn't like the scrambling in and out. So far we've had mixed success with laying a bath mat over the slippery parts. Otherwise she acts like it's a car trip. Here she is in the boat with Daddy.

And this is a shot of her on the island. She freaking loved camping. As far as I can tell, every morning she woke up and was like "WE'RE STILL HIKING!!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!". That also happened every time she woke up from a nap, every time we took a hike around the island, and every time we got out of the boat...

Heehee.

Since we were there over the Solstice, I did a few little ephemeral nature art projects. This is a close up of my rock circle. I had a little piece of found plastic as a pseudo sun dial.

I brought things to read while camping but mostly ended up hanging out and looking at lovely things like birds and water and sunsets. I got to drive the boat a little, and discovered it's MUCH harder than it looks.

I find I almost never read or do any art projects while camping. Which is great because it's an excuse to really fully relax. My art is relaxing, but it's not the same as just sitting back and BEING. Which is something I'm terrible at, and am unlikely to get any better at soon. Even though I know it would do me worlds of good.

Some things to share with you.

This webcomic. This isn't the beginning but it's a lovely shot.

A new project I'm working on. Doing a real version of my wolf mask painting. You can see the painting here.

It's already got a lot more going on than this shows. Photo curtesy of the taller half.

We went to the local farmers market for the first time in ages this morning. Already a million degrees outside, but well worth the trek. Especially because we got the awesome yummy plum chutney this cool dude sells there... and fresh apple cider doughnuts!!! *dies*

Finally, I don't have an electric car, but I do love this video. Did I ever share it with you? :D

Have any of you had a vacation lately? Or are you planning on doing anything fun? Share and we can all live vicariously!
